Used for our move last December. A three man team arrived, two of them were great, friendly and hardworking. The third though was consistently rude throughout the day, complained about having to take items upstairs, loudly complained to me about the "amount of stuff" we had, even though a company rep had previously been round to quote and catalogue the property so they should have known the size of the houses and amount to be removed. He was in a terrible mood all day and made me feel uncomfortable and uneasy as a woman alone in my own home on the day of move. Numerous items were damaged. The walls of our new home were damaged, dented and marked in multiple rooms and areas. When I raised this with the team, the guy who had been complaining throughout the day told me it was my fault that he had damaged the walls due to the angle of the (very normally positioned) hallway. One of the bedroom walls needed a complete repaint after the damage sustained, multiple areas needed painting and refilling on walls, woodwork, ceilings and doors. After complaining to the company they did send someone round to patch up the paint, fill the holes and take the damaged furniture away to be fixed but this was an additional stressor we did not need during a move. I would never use this company again.

Very good service from getting the quote until delivery. Every interaction we had with staff was superb, when you call them you always get through to them quickly and they answer any questions you might have, I was especially impressed with Grace who is very clued up with the processes abroad and what documents are needed and made this stressful part very easy for us. The staff who packed up the items as well as delivered them were very polite, efficient and quick. We had a good experience with MJR moving our items from the UK to Spain and I would recommend them.

Just a fantastic experience with Mathews James Removals from the first phone call to the final delivery… I was looking for a detail oriented quality service to pick up new furniture in the UK and deliver to mainland Europe; Im delighted to have used this professional company. Everything was extremely organized, proactive, quick, well priced and the delivery was just outstanding. The furniture needed to be extra packed because it was all made out of white fabric and the manufacturer pushed back on this being done on their site - we insisted and Mathews James Removals assisted in the convincing and reassuring and it went smoothly. Did a move from Spain to UK and hurrah, nothing was broken. Removal guys on both sides were very helpful. However the 2 stars is warranted by lack of clear comms on when delivery would take place. My shipment was gold service, down for delivery ASAP. When they collected on 20th December I asked when I'd know about delivery and the guy told me I'd already missed the last truck before Christmas...Not great. If I had known that, I would have booked the removal for earlier, but nobody made any suggestion of this and my paperwork said nothing about goods not moving and that deliveries take place multiple times a week! As such, I was left in UK for a month without anything. I emailed twice to get a date and was then told I had to pay for 2 weeks extra storage, which would have been fine if I was made aware beforehand that effectively nothing would move out of Spain for over 10 days, that's not just 'a couple of days off for Christmas' So 10/10 to the guys on the ground and a 2 for everyone else, feels very shady to hold goods ransom without any heads up about things not moving over Xmas/New Year.

Have been sent an additional invoice for £600 for 'storage' by which they mean the extra time it took them to deliver my goods from Spain to UK ( it will have taken them 5 weeks although they're now saying they wont deliver until I've paid this new invoice. Is that blackmail I wonder? ). They rely on small print to charge extra. Don't trust them. A really shoddy way to do business and treat customers. Not an honest trustworthy company.

Could not recommend any more highly. Used a rival firm on the way out which were the same price and offered nothing like the level of quality Matthew James did. Everything was scanned and labelled, extra packaging was provided free of charge to make it even safer than we had packed it. They were extremely thorough and careful with all our belongings and very flexible and quick to respond to our changing demands at very short notice. Absolutely top class for a service where on paper so much can go wrong but they really were flawless.

Removals can be difficult, but Matthew James provided a great service. My removal has been from UK to Spain. The team has been really helpful, easy to reach and flexible to accommodate all the needs during the whole process. They had great availability for survey, pickup and delivery. Their staff has been punctual in both pickup and delivery and they have been able to work around my time constrains. Even if there have been some minor damages to a few items, they have exceeded their obligations and provided compensation for what the insurance did not cover. I will for sure contact them again if I will ever need to move again.

Moved from the UK to France, with a few months of storage in the UK. Matthew James was recommended to me by a colleagues who used their services as well. Brilliant removal company Moved me from Spain back to England. Stored my things for 4 months then delivered to my new home. Tom and Jordan were AMAZING, extremely polite, and friendly careful and helpful. I was so stressed because I didn’t think I would fit all the furniture in the new place but they made me laugh, unpacked things and set the furniture in different places until I was happy. We appointed Matthew James Removals to move us from Colchester to Kings Hill, West Malling. We opted for the Gold service which was probably the best decision we’d made throughout the move process, as the crew packed absolutely everything. We were also impressed there was a lady packer as part of the crew who was an exceptional packer and as a result not a single item was broken! We got keys to the new property at 16:00 which meant the crew had to sit around waiting for over three hours which they did without a moan even though it meant a late finish. We would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone that needs a stress free move.

From the moment I asked for a quote to the moment my belongings were delivered I was impressed my the professionalism and efficiency of all the staff involved at Matthew James Removals. I moved from London to the centre of France and I couldn't be happier with the service provided. The agent who started to support me with advice and quotes followed the move all the way through until the last day. I was also contacted by some of his colleagues for the invoicing and the filling of customs paperwork; all were very friendly and helpful. All my queries and emails were answered within hours when not immediately. The movers who came to take my boxes were equally professional and efficient and my flat (1 bed) was emptied in an hour. They labelled all the boxes and goods with QR codes stickers to help the tracking all the way through. Another team of movers delivered my goods in a very remote area of France 10 days later and were also very quick and professional. Everything was there in good state. All in all, for the quality of service, the number of people and the logistics involved, it was excellent value for money and it took a lot of worries of moving to another country away.

So this is a different review, I’m in the process of booking with Matthew James to move abroad. And so far the interaction has been the most welcoming response. Relocating to another country with your family is one of the most stressful situations you can go through. We made one of the worst mistakes of our lives in hiring Mathew James removals. No empathy at all, stubborn in their attitudes, not practical at all and most of all vague in their answers. Because they don’t care about the client and they want to do the things easy for them I am struggling with their own, biased and vague interpretation of customs law which is delaying my relocation. I am spending money in a hotel because they don’t want to struggle with customs too much. This madam Vicky is the same as chatting with a WhatsApp BOT when you need humans the most. And her supervisor Kellie is the same thing. They put pressure to you instead of trying to solve their problems and do their work. Empty answers where they only try to hide their lazyness and hands off aproach to resolve situations that other companies have done at this very same time. I have put this on my lawyers hands. So if you are looking to relocate, if you are reading this and if you love your family and care for your mental health: DONT DO BUSINESS WITH MATTHEW JAMES.

From Sandie arranging everything with little leeway re dates to Tom, Laurence and Brin packing us up, loading us up (including 2 large motorcycles), getting us there and unloading without drama. They all made what seemed in advance a nightmare prospect a walk in the park. Recommended.

The customs team were really communicative and prompt and the collection team were really excellent. We recently used Matthew James to move a whole load of stuff from a storage unit in Bridgend to our new place in Valencia and it was so much easier than I anticipated. Not one thing was broken or dirty and we felt like they’d taken true care of all of our belongings which was so appreciated as a lot of it had sentimental value. We were seriously impressed with how lovely each and every one of the people who helped along the way was, and how well each person did their specific job, and linked up with each other so there was no repeating of giving information from our side. There hasn’t been one bit which I thought could have been done differently and that is truly rare. I can’t remember the last time we had such high quality of service, especially when doing everything remotely and so complex. Would recommend without question.

We would never use them again nor recommend them to our friends. The arrogance in how they responded was breathtaking! The response below is totally false and inappropriate and it is just more of the same from Mathew James in our view. It is interesting that you don't point at that the matter is going before the courts and they have not yet ruled on the case. It is a real shame that you make blatantly untrue statements (eg our dryer was only a few months old) when the case is still proceeding through the courts. The photos below speak for themselves.

From start to finish excellent service! They definitely went the extra mile to deliver a top quality service. We moved from Paris to London and paid for a platinum service that included packing and unwrapping of furniture at destination, honestly the best investment we have made. Everything was wrapped and packed with special care, each and every single item arrived without any damage, which I did not expect from a Paris to London move including a 2-week long storage. The crews were amazing, they arrived on time and they knew exactly what they were doing. Every single person we had contact with from Matthew James (the operations and payment staff, the moving crew) was extremely nice, professional and efficient! We could even call and arrange a collection of all the packing material (boxes, papers) after having finished unpacking. We were super impressed by that! We used Matthew James to transport my home from a Big Yellow Storage, in London, UK, to my new apartment in Madrid, Spain. They were consummate professionals, collecting, tagging and packing everything up in London and then delivering it 3 weeks later to our home in Madrid.
